Admit it.
It’s February. You haven’t even done the workout yet, but you’ve already checked the CrossFit® Games site three times today.
We all do it.
The Leaderboard is addictive. It’s where the magic happens, where the community comes together, and where we see if all those 6 a.m. sessions actually paid off.
But this year, the Leaderboard looks different.
With the return of the Quarterfinals and the Top 25% Cutline, the math has changed. You aren’t just fighting for a spot in the top 1% anymore; you are fighting to stay above that red line that separates the “Open” from the “Quarterfinals.”
Here is everything you need to know about navigating the 2026 Leaderboard, understanding your percentile, and ensuring your score actually counts.

1. The Magic Number: Top 25%
In 2026, the goalposts have moved. The Top 25% of individual athletes (and age-group athletes) in each region will advance to the Quarterfinals.
How to track this: On the official CrossFit® Games app or website, look for your Percentile Rank, not just your overall placement.
- Safe Zone: 75th Percentile and above (e.g., 80th, 90th).
- Danger Zone: 70th-74th Percentile.
- The Bubble: If you are sitting at exactly 75%, you need to push. Scores shift drastically on Monday nights.
Pro Tip: The leaderboard fluctuates wildly between Friday morning and Monday evening. Do not panic if you drop 5,000 spots on Monday afternoon, that’s just the “procrastinator wave” logging their scores.
2. Scoring 101: Low Score Wins
Just a quick refresher for the rookies: CrossFit® uses a “golf style” scoring system for the overall leaderboard.
- 1st Place = 1 Point
- 10,000th Place = 10,000 Points
The Goal: You want the lowest possible point total across the three weeks (26.1, 26.2, and 26.3).
The Strategy: Consistency is king. One terrible workout (e.g., placing 40,000th) can tank your overall standing much harder than one great workout can fix it. If you have a wheelhouse workout, crush it. If you have a weakness, manage the damage.
3. The “Tie-Break” Rule
Every second counts. Literally. In most Open workouts, there is a Tie-Break time.
- Example: If the workout is “AMRAP 15 Minutes,” the tie-break might be “Time to complete the first 3 rounds.”
If you and 5,000 other athletes both complete 200 reps, your ranking is decided by who got to the tie-break marker fastest. Do not ignore the tie-break. It can be the difference between making the Top 25% and sitting on the couch in April.
4. Verification: The “Monday Night” Scramble
The deadline to submit your score is usually Monday at 5:00 PM PT.
- If you perform at an Affiliate: Your Affiliate Manager must validate your score by Wednesday at 5:00 PM PT. Nudge them gently. If they forget, your score doesn’t count.
- If you perform via Video: You must upload your video link with your score. Expect a 24-48 hour delay for it to appear as “Verified.”
Warning: Do not wait until 4:55 PM to submit. The servers will crash. They always do. Submit early.
5. Custom Leaderboards: Find Your Tribe
The global leaderboard is massive (and a little intimidating). The best way to stay motivated is to use Custom Leaderboards.
- Hashtags: Create a hashtag for your gym buddies, your profession (#TeacherFit, #LeoFit), or your specific rivalry.
- Filters: You can filter by Country, Affiliate, Age Group, and even Occupation.
This is where the Open truly shines. You might be 50,000th in the world, but you could be 1st in your office pool. That’s a win.
6. No Teams?
Remember, there is no Team Division in the Open this year. Everyone registers as an Individual. If you are trying to qualify for a team later in the season, your individual performance on this leaderboard is what qualifies you for the next stage. Focus on your own lane first.
The Bottom Line
The leaderboard is a tool, not a judge of your worth. Use it to track your progress, fuel your competitive fire, and see if you’ve earned that Quarterfinals invite. Even better, it’s the one place you can look back year after year and actually see your fitness improving, same season, same pressure, new you.
But remember: The score you log is final. Make sure you’ve read the standards, filmed your workout (just in case), and gave it everything you had.
We’ll see you on the leaderboard!
