23.2 Open Announcement: How To Watch It

Written By Charleh Knighton  |  CrossFit, The Open

The most anticipated question we all ask each other: when will the next Open workout be announced? Your friend might have already told you, but if you're like me, then you're checking, double checking and double double checking to make sure you don't miss it.

Well, here's the answer....

The 23.2 Open workout announcement will be streamed live at games.crossfit.com on Thursday, February 23, starting at 12:00 PM (Noon) US Pacific Time (GMT -7).

Or for the international reader among us, here's an easy cheat sheet when the 23.2 CrossFit Open workout will be announced around the world:

  • US Pacific Time: Thursday, 12:00 PM (Noon)
  • US Eastern Time: Thursday, 15:00 (3PM)
  • UK Greenwich Mean Time: Thursday, 20:00 (8PM)
  • EU Central European Time: Thursday, 21:00 (9PM)
  • Aus Western Time: Friday, 04:00 (4AM)
  • Aus Central Time: Friday, 05:00 (5AM)
  • Aus Eastern Time: Friday, 06:00 (6AM)
  • New Zealand Standard Time: Friday, 09:00 (9AM)

Where is the 23.2 being hosted?

Location: CrossFit Bison in New Jersey, USA.

With 23.1 being hosted in Madrid, Spain with Laura Horvath and Gabriela Migala, CrossFit HQ have already taken some heat for loading the bar incorrectly for the elite athletes thereby making their scores invalid: CrossFit will be under pressure to making things right this time. Hopefully with them being back on home turf, counting the math in lbs again will be much more manageable.

23.2 Open Announcement: How To Watch It

Which athletes are going head-to-head for 23.2 CrossFit Open Announcement?

Oh, it's a good one! Two of the biggest names in CrossFit 2023 with new man on the block and top of the leaderboard, Roman Khrennikov going head to head with the legendary veteran, Patrick Vellner. Both flying the flags for their respective countries, Russia and Canada.

Question is, will the veteran Patty V show Roman how it's done or will Roman's current winning streak put on a performance. Who knows! All I know is that I'm not missing out. This showdown is going to be epic and I wanna be there.

If you're new to CrossFit, here's some background on the athletes to whet your appetite.

Roman Khrennikov

We'll forgive you if you've never heard of him before 2023, but he has been around the CrossFit scene for some time now.

Roman has unbelievably qualified for the CrossFit Games 4 times, and due to visa issues has only been able to attend in 2022. You can only imagine how you would feel getting that green light after years fighting to stay at the top of your game and qualify AGAIN.

If you didn't know, the Russian CrossFit athlete has won the 2018 European regionals, finished 5th Dubai CrossFit Championships in 2019 and came 1st in the Last-Chance Qualifiers.

However, Roman is going no where.

He has now been accepted with a 5 year long visa to enter and compete in the United States of America. We've got a feeling he's here to stay and show the international stage what he's got.

He's already given up a glimmer at this year's 2023 Wodapalooza competition and placed 2nd overall.

Patrick Vellner

He's the Canadian that we all love. Dad, Chiropractor, and just too nice for his own good. He's a CrossFitter you have to follow.

In the past, he's made it as far as the CrossFit Games podium not once, but four times including two 2nd and two 3rd place finishes from his 6 appearance.

Just incredible.

Over the years, he's known for his consistent performances and terrible bad luck. As an audience member, we've watched his bike break and fall several feet from netting. None of which have stopped him from continuing to compete. That's some hell of a mental game he's got up his sleeve.

Vellner is known for his unique blend of athleticism, strength, and mobility from his schooling knowledge and background in gymnastics.

If Roman think he's going to win this Open 23.2 workout, then he's really going to have to dig deep.

So, who do you think is going win? Roman and Vellner?
