Setup & Equipment Needed for Open Workout #2

For CrossFit Open Workout 22.2 you will need;

  • A Barbell
  • Tape (refer to set up for how to use the tape)
  • Standard bumper plates (18 in plates) to load to your division’s weight
  • Collars to secure weight on the barbell

CrossFit made a special note that you can NOT weight gymnastic grips for this workout.

Other equipment you may want:

  • A belt (especially if the deadlifts are heavy for you)
  • Knee sleeves

CrossFit has shared a graphic example of how to set up your equipment for this workout to meet the standards and requirements for submission:

The Standards For Open 22.2

22.2 Deadlift Standard

The deadlift standard is the same for all divisions.

CrossFit Open 22.2 Deadlift | WODprep

A few important things to note:

  • You can NOT wear gymnastics grips
  • Collars must be on the outside of your plates
  • No sumo deadlifts allowed / Hands must be outside of the knees
  • You cannot receive ANY assistance with the barbell
    • For example, if the barbell rolls away or moves over when you drop it, nobody can move or adjust the barbell for you. Also, if your weights start to come loose, nobody can touch the bar to push the weights and collars back on.

The deadlift rep starts when the bar is on the ground and is credited once the athlete’s hips and knees reach full extension and the head and shoulders are behind the barbell.

22.2 Bar-Facing Burpee Standard

These are bar-facing burpees so you must be perpendicular to the barbell.

You may jump OR step back in the burpee.

Your chest must be centered over the line of tape you placed on the floor and your feet and hands must straddle the tape.

Your head has to stay behind the barbell and your hands and feet must not go outside of the width of the barbell.

You may jump up or step up to the starting position of your burpee.

For 22.2 you do NOT have to have a two-foot take off! However, you must be clearly jumping over the bar with both feet in the air as you pass over the bar. Stepping over the barbell is only permitted for the scaled divisions.

You cannot touch the barbell when passing over the bar, or it is a “no rep”.

The rep is counted when both feet reach the ground on the other side of the bar. There is no requirement about a two-foot landing. Before starting the next rep, the athlete must be perpendicular to bar/ face it.
