Raw Strength has one main focus: to build your ability to move more weight. Our goal with this course is to improve your "Absolute Strength". Absolute Strength refers to the maximum amount of weight an individual can move without regards to their body weight, or the maximum force an individual can produce.

The "BIG 3" lifts...
Back squat, deadlift, and bench press are foundational barbell lifts representing pure strength. They should be incorporated into any strength training program. However, functional fitness demands strength in additional movement patterns, prompting the inclusion of three more exercises (shoulder press, Pendlay row, and front squat).
Olympic lifting is key to the sport
While the back squat develops leg strength, the front squat better aligns with movements seen in training and competition (cleans, thrusters, jerks). Adding the front squat allows for specific pattern training while still targeting absolute strength.
Functional fitness often involves overhead work, making vertical pressing crucial. The strict press is ideal for overhead strength, serving as an essential exercise.

Upper body pulling is critical in any balanced strength program
Although the pull-up (or weighted pull-up) is the standard for vertical pulling, it emphasizes relative strength. Instead, the Pendlay row was chosen for upper body pulling, as it is the best pattern for absolute strength in this area.
