5km run
WODprep Strategy Top Tips:
Alright, so when that race kicks off, resist the urge to burst out of the gate like a rocket. Instead, start off with a nice, steady pace that you know you can keep up throughout the whole race. Going all out right from the beginning might seem tempting, but trust me, you’ll regret it later when you’re worn out.
Now, a cool trick many runners use is having a GPS watch or a smartphone app that tells you how fast you’re going in real-time. It’s like having a personal coach keeping an eye on you. Set it up to show your current pace and take a peek at it every now and then.
Break the race down in your mind – think kms or minutes, whatever works for you. The goal is to keep a consistent pace for each chunk, rather than stressing about the entire distance.
Here’s a strategy: try to run the second half of the race a bit faster than the first. This way, you’ll have more energy in the tank for a powerful finish.
Listen to your breathing – if you’re huffing and puffing like a steam engine way too early, it’s a sign you’re going too hard. Adjust your speed so that you can keep your breathing in check.
Lastly, when you can see the finish line up ahead, go for broke!
Give that extra effort and maybe even kick it up a notch. The excitement and rush of nearing the finish can give you a sweet burst of energy. You got this!
